[MUSIC PLAYING] I'd say it's a pretty normal life, you know, life with a huge family. We have six boys. All of them, except one, have muscular dystrophy. And two daughters that are right in the middle of that group of boys. The oldest is Sterling, then Christian, Lincoln, Jane, Lilly, Gabe, Noel, and then Winston. I think he's about four. [LAUGHING] I'm just glad you didn't ask their birthdays. [MUSIC PLAYING] As I've left home and come out on a mission, it really makes you realize how much your family means to you. When we first found out that Sterling had muscular dystrophy, your first response is devastation and just--you cry all the time. And then you start realizing, he's never gonna ride a bicycle. He's never gonna play in the park with his friends. And you start going through all this list of stuff that he can't do. And I don't know exactly at what point we realized, wow, he might not be able to serve a mission. I've always wanted to serve a mission. I never really thought about how it would work out. I just was planning to go. And then it got closer to the age where most people serve missions, and me and my family started trying to figure out how that would work.

And it was actually kind of a cool story how it happened. I was teaching Primary. The mother of a family, that we know really well and we're kind of friends with, came up to my dad. And she said, "So your parents are retired; right?" And I said, "Yeah." And she said, "Well, why don't they serve with Sterling? And they could go on a mission together?" And he thought about it, and he goes--he thought that was a really good idea. And I called my dad, and I said, "What do you think about serving a mission with Sterling?" And I said, "You don't have to answer me right now. Think about it, and call me back." And he said, "I don't have to think about it." He said, "We'll do it." And it opened the door.

I work in the office with referrals. I'm what they call the referral secretary. And I've taught a few lessons, out at churches and tabernacles and stuff. That's been a great experience. Yeah, it was like Heavenly Father just came in and said, "Here's the perfect thing for you." It was custom made. It was custom made. And I think if people have the desire and--you know, like in our case, people that are willing to help--Heavenly Father's gonna create opportunities for people to serve missions. And it'll just be perfect for them. [MUSIC PLAYING]
