But you must know how I feel.

There are no such things as visions and revelations in these days. All of that ceased with the Apostles, and there will never be any more of it.

Don't speak of it further. It will only bring you grief. "Has the day of miracles ceased? Or have angels ceased to appear unto the children of men? ... Behold, I say unto you, Nay; ... it is by faith that angels appear and minister unto men; ... [and] if these things have ceased, then has faith ceased also." On the evening of the twenty-first of September, while I was in the act of calling upon God, I discovered a light appearing in my room. A personage appeared at my bedside. He called me by name, and said that he was a messenger sent from God, that his name was Moroni, and that God had a work for me to do.

The Prophet Joseph Smith did not receive a fullness of knowledge and understanding at first. He was tutored, line upon line, by heavenly intervention. Moroni visited Joseph each year until the time was prepared for the young Prophet to receive the plates of the Book of Mormon. Joseph F. Smith, Joseph Smith's nephew and later President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, recorded that the Prophet Joseph (quote) "received his education from above, from God Almighty, and not from man-made institutions. ... He was taught by him from whom all intelligence flows." (End quote.) And as the events of the Restoration unfolded, Joseph was visited and instructed by numerous heavenly beings. Of such he testified in section 128 of the Doctrine and Covenants.

And again, what do we hear? Glad tidings from Cumorah! Moroni, an angel from heaven, declaring the fulfilment of the prophets-- the book to be revealed. A voice of the Lord in the wilderness of Fayette, Seneca county, declaring the three witnesses to bear record of the book! The voice of Peter, James, and John in the wilderness on the Susquehanna river, declaring themselves as possessing the keys of the kingdom, and of the dispensation of the fulness of times! And the voice of Michael, the archangel; the voice of Gabriel, and Raphael, and divers angels, from Michael or Adam down to the present time, all declaring their dispensation, their rights, their keys, their honors, their majesty and glory, and the power of their priesthood; giving line upon line, precept upon precept; here a little and there a little; giving us consolation by holding forth that which is to come, confirming our hope!
