Concerns about man's authority to act in the name of God have troubled earnest seekers of truth in all ages. Without proper priesthood authority, the ordinances of salvation would be invalid. No man can administer salvation through the gospel, to the souls of men, except he is authorized from God, by revelation, or by being ordained by someone whom God hath sent. There has been a chain of authority and power from Adam down to the present time. How have we come at the Priesthood in the last days? It came in regular succession. Peter, James, and John had it given to them and they gave it to others. For Joseph Smith, the restoration of priesthood authority opened the door to the salvation which he sought for him and his family. My husband was baptized by immersion on April 6, 1830. When he came up out of the water, Joseph exclaimed, "Praise to my God! that I have lived to see my own father baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ!"
