It is just a little handful of priesthood you see gathered here, but this Church will fill North and South America--it will fill the world. This prophecy made by Joseph Smith in Kirtland, Ohio, was remarkable indeed. Joseph envisioned the future growth of the kingdom, though the Church had been organized for little more than a year. He recalled: We had received a commandment to organize the Church; and accordingly we met together for that purpose, at the house of Mr. Peter Whitmer, Sen., on Tuesday, the sixth day of April, 1830. Approximately 60 people crowded in and around the Whitmer home in Fayette, New York. Having opened the meeting, we proceeded, according to previous commandment, to call on our brethren to know whether they accepted us as their teachers in the things of the Kingdom of God. We then took bread, blessed it, and brake it; also wine, and blessed it. The Holy Ghost was poured out upon us to a very great degree--some prophesied, whilst we all praised the Lord, and rejoiced exceedingly.
