David O. McKay was a man of great spirituality. Certainly, the Lord blessed him with gifts of the Holy Spirit that were manifest often during his ministry. His years of service were replete with examples of the gift of tongues, healings, visions, discernment, wisdom, charity, and revelation. As a man of godly spirituality, he invited all to follow the same path. He taught-- Spirituality is the highest acquisition of the soul-- the divine in man, the supreme crowning gift that makes him king of all created things. It is the consciousness of victory over self and of communion with the infinite. To acquire more and more power, to feel one's faculties unfolding, and one's soul in harmony with God and with the infinite-- that is spirituality. Spirituality is manifest in doing, not in dreaming. Rapturous daydreams, flights of heavenly fancy, longings to see the invisible are not so impressive as the plain doing of duty. Every being doing and living of good for the very good's sake-- that is spiritual. You lose the soul unless you develop spirituality within.
