[MUSIC PLAYING] Howard W. Hunter's boyhood was spent in the growing community of Boise, Idaho. It wasn't popular at the time to be a Mormon there, but Howard had a testimony, one that had developed from early childhood. "I knew that God lived," he remembered. "My mother had taught me to pray and to thank Heavenly Father for all the things that I enjoyed. I often thanked Him for the beauty of the earth and the wonderful times I had at the ranch, and by the river, and with the scouts. I also learned to ask Him for those things I wanted or needed." That which he learned at the feet of his mother would serve as a spiritual foundation that would never falter, carrying him through the 35 years he served as a General Authority for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
