Howard W. Hunter loved the Holy Land and its people. Nearly two dozen times, he traveled to the Holy Land and the Middle East, conducting business for the Church. There he helped the Church establish friendships with both Jewish and Arab leaders. These friendships aided the Church and eventually secured permission to build both the Orson Hyde Memorial Garden as well as the BYU Jerusalem Center. By 1993, he had visited almost every major Islamic nation in the world. Having developed a love for these people and places, he often reminded the Saints of the compassion that should dwell in our hearts for all of God's children. "Do you imagine our Heavenly Father loving one nationality of his offspring more exclusively than another? As members of the Church, we need to be reminded of Nephi's challenging question--'Know ye not that there are more nations than one?' Both the Jews and the Arabs are children of our Father. They are both children of promise, and as a Church we do not take sides. We have love for and an interest in each. [MUSIC PLAYING]
