It's very important to be connected to the girls, because they have to know that you love them.

When we know you love us, it changes everything. That love helps us trust you, listen, and apply what you teach. To start, get to know us. I think that as a Young Men's leader, your responsibility isn't just on Sundays. It's getting to know these boys, and it's getting to know what kind of things interest them. Take an interest in our lives outside of class. But I find that my involvement with the youth goes way beyond the classroom. I attend their concerts. I attend their basketball games. I look for opportunities that I can be where they're at, and I can tell them, "Good job." And I look for opportunities to express it, to give them hugs and write them notes or say, "You are so great in that" or "I loved watching you do this." I am with them on Facebook. I send them text messages occasionally. The other day, a young woman wanted to borrow one of my old prom dresses for prom. They notice when you're trying to make an effort to be part of their life. First they have to know that you love them, that you want to teach them. And then you have to communicate on their level. The Lord walked with them and talked with them in everyday life, and His teachings were on that level always. Under the Lord's watchful care, His disciples became powerful leaders. He loved them. A new commandment I give unto you: That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Just like the Savior, watch over us, and do all you can to help us become converted. [SPEAKING SPANISH] I'm willing to give everything for them, because the Lord gave everything for me.

They are really important to me, and I love them a lot. So while I'm their leader, I'll do all I can to bring them to Christ and help them become truly converted.
