In this video, you will learn how to use a class discussion. The way you have class discussions during the week in our online site is through class forums or discussions. You can post and comment the same way you do in social media sites that you might be used to. When you post a message in these class discussions, everyone in your class will see what you type. To get credit for participating in a class discussion, you must do two things. First, you need to reply to the original question that started the class discussion. Second, you need to reply to at least one other class member's post. Let's take a look at what a class discussion page looks like. When you see an icon that looks like this, it means this activity is a class discussion. Click on the name of the activity. What you see at the top of the page is the original post, or parent post, as it's called in the site. Read through the information there. To comment or to reply to the main post, click in the bottom right-hand corner where it says Reply. Let's see what happens when you click on the Reply button on this page. After you click Reply, you will see this page. This is where you will type your post. You can take your time to think about what you would like to say before you write your response.

Then click Post to forum at the bottom of the page. Next you will see a page that says, "Your post was successfully added. You have 30 minutes to edit if you want to make any changes." To look at the comment you have made, click on the Edit button and go back to make any changes. If you would like to delete the comment altogether, go ahead and hit the Delete button.

Then go back and make a different reply, or add to any other classmates' posts that you can. As soon as you save your response, what you write will appear below, indented below the other replies that have been made to the main post. Under each reply, there's something that says Show parent. This does not mean that you show Mom or Dad what's going on in the discussion. If you click on Show parent, it will show you what comment or question the person is responding to. Whenever you log in to seminary and look at the activities for the week, look to the right of the class discussion activities for a blue highlight that says how many unread posts there have been since you were last on the site. When you see those blue highlights, go back to those discussions. There you can read what other comments have been made since you last visited that discussion. You can also see if someone has made a comment on something you posted, or you can see what is being discussed in that particular forum. Remember that to get credit for class discussions in online seminary, you need to reply to the main post, and you need to reply to another student's comment that they have made to the post. You will be amazed by some of the comments your fellow students will make! Get in the habit of doing both of these. The more you comment and talk to one another in these discussions, the more you're going to feel like a class. Please reach out. Be brave; step outside your comfort zone to participate in these online discussions. They will be well worth the time of getting to know one another.
