This video is a student-led discussion on the scripture mastery scripture Moroni 7:41. Students in the class recite the scripture and then ask questions they have about the verses.

As the questions are asked by the class, another student writes the questions on the board.

Then students in the class search their scriptures to answer those questions.

Using a different color of marker, a student then write the answers from the class on the board as well.

The students then discuss how this scripture relates to the Savior, the family, and the Basic Doctrines.

Moroni 7:41. "And what is it that ye shall hope for? Behold I say unto you that ye shall have hope through the atonement of Christ and the power of his resurrection, to be raised unto life eternal, and this because of your faith in him according to the promise." Yes, Cody? "What is hope through the Atonement of Christ?" Yes, Mariah. "I understand where the Atonement of Christ would bring hope, but why does His Resurrection bring hope also?" Kate, what was your question again? "How can you have hope in Christ and in the Atonement? So, how you can strengthen the faith?" On the first line, I like what you're talking about. But what do you hope for, like a more personal question?

It already says what is the promise. My question is, "who is making the promise, or who's promising?" Yes? "What does the power of the Resurrection mean to you?" Personal question.

Mariah? "Who is this promise made to?" So it says we should have hope through the Atonement of Christ. I want to know how we can have faith and hope for the Atonement of Christ.

Let's transition now. Let's go into answering these questions. Please search your surrounding verses, footnotes, student study guides, dictionaries. You guys know the routine. Let's answer them. Yes, Kate? I have a scripture that helps answer the Resurrection question, and it's Alma 46:39: "And it came to pass that there were many who died, firmly believing that their souls were redeemed by the Lord Jesus Christ; thus they went out of the world rejoicing." And this just reminds me how maybe in war and in sickness and epidemics, people die, but when you have hope in Christ and the Resurrection and His Atonement, you know that you can return to your family and live forever again as resurrected beings. And I think that's the comfort and hope that we can have in the Atonement of Jesus Christ and power of His Resurrection. Yes, Andrew? If you read the surrounding scriptures, Moroni 7, verse 42 says, "Wherefore, if a man have faith he must needs have hope; for without faith there cannot be any hope." So it answers the "how can you have faith and hope?"--you can't have hope without having faith first.

Yes, Cody? I was looking up the hope and the Resurrection as well. It also led me to Alma 46:39. And what I got out of it is, it said that there are many who die firmly believing that their souls were redeemed by the Lord Jesus Christ. And that speaks to me, and it says that the hope in the Atonement means that you can go through life happy and that you may be able to enter this life even though you go through life and those trials and struggles and you have a lot going for you, but that happiness is the end of our existence. And that you can go through life happy, and you can also end life happy. It's D and C 138, verse 14: "All these had departed the mortal life, firm in the hope of a glorious resurrection." And that answers why we have hope in the Resurrection also, because we have hope in the Atonement, but the hope we have in the Atonement is for the Resurrection. Yes, Alex? To answer the "who is making this promise and who it's made to"--Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are making the promise to us. And we are also making it back to them that we will return with them again. Yes, Brad? For "what does the power of Resurrection mean to you?"--I think it's saying that the Resurrection and what it means to us is that Jesus died, and He came back to life, so it gives us hope--hope that we'll be able to live again forever. So we don't have to fear death if we live our lives the way we should, we then will be able to live with Christ and live again. And yes, Cody? I think it's important to note how it says "unto life eternal," that it doesn't just mean that we'll live forever. It means that we'll live forever with God. And the hope that it brings is that we will live with God forever. And that is not simply a meaningless existence. That could go for the promise, too. So that answers that question. That answers the promise question, "What is the promise?" That we can be with Him again.

Where do you see the Savior in this scripture? Yes? I see the Savior in the Atonement of Christ and how he atoned for our sins so we can all return to live with him again. Yes, Andrew? I see the Savior. And it says, in also the Atonement, but in the promise, which is that we can live forever with God. The suffering that he went through for me personally. Anybody else? Yes, Mariah? It reminds me of a scripture in Alma when he was telling his son about how he repented of his sins. And he says something akin to, "there was nothing as bitter as my pain, but then there was nothing as sweet as my joy." And so I think what that's telling us here is we all know how painful the Atonement must've been for Christ, and if there's nothing as sweet as the joy, that means that the joy will eventually surpass the pain that even Christ went to. Where do you see the family? Yes? I see it when he says, "unto life eternal," because if we do everything right, we can live with our families forever with God. So that's a beautiful thing. What basic doctrine is taught in this scripture? Yes, Nathan? The plan of salvation, how the Atonement was such a key essential to getting back to living with Them again.

Yes, Alex? Also with marriage and family, because we all want to live with our families again. And through the Atonement, we can do that. And Andrew, you had something? Under the Atonement of Christ, it says, "obey the commandments. Receive the saving ordinances and keep their covenants. We'll overcome spiritual death and receive the gift of eternal life," which is the promise that we're promised in this scripture.
