The first time I learned from the scriptures was from the missionaries back in Korea. They were teaching me about the plan of salvation. I didn't understand everything, but I understood that it was something that God wanted me to do and read. I think a testimony of the scriptures comes by reading it and thinking about how it applies to me personally. I understood that more clearly because there was a scripture that impacted my mother to join the Church and really understand that this gospel has something to offer to her. That scripture is in 2 Nephi chapter 2, verse 24 and 25: "But behold, all things have been done in the wisdom of him who knoweth all things. Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy." She really realized that there was a purpose in life for her and that this wasn't something vain that she just had to go through. That impacted us, obviously, a lot because through her we were able to be part of this Church. As a missionary, I had a similar experience where I was able to share that scripture and impact the life of this one lady. She was really depressed. She didn't know the purpose of her being here in life. And she was really touched, and she wanted to be a different person. And this scripture did impact her in a way that helped her understand the purpose of life. After the mission, I felt like I could accomplish everything, such as marriage, school, and work. And there were a lot of blessings that the Lord did give me. But there were others that I felt there were obstacles that prevented me from accomplishing those tasks. From the scriptures, I learned that the Lord gives us trials, and they're really hard to accomplish. But He has a specific purpose. The scriptures are a guidance that helps me become a better father, a better son, a better husband, a better student, a better person. For example, Lehi as a father leads his son and his wife and his family to the promised land. And there's leadership, there's counsel in it that I can mimic and try to be as prophets in the past. And there are a lot of cool things that I would like to share with my friends and people that aren't familiar with it. In times of difficulty, it's really a blessing to have something tangible to read and ponder about. I gain a testimony of the scriptures by reading them, following the principles, and seeing it for myself.
