As teachers, we are always looking for ways to make our lessons meaningful and interesting for our students. The primary source for determining what to teach is the scriptures themselves. The primary resource for ideas on what to teach and methods on how to teach should be the curriculum material that has been provided. Using the curriculum will help you be true to sequential scripture teaching and stay focused on the scriptures. It will help safeguard doctrinal accuracy as you teach material that has been through the correlation review process. The curriculum will also help you be true to the intent of the inspired author and to focus on converting principles and basic doctrines. It will help you with pacing and encourage you to cover the entire book of scripture. For the next few minutes, we're going to introduce you to some of the curriculum resources you have to help you. The seminary curriculum is available in hard copy and online. The content in both formats is essentially the same, although the online version will be updated with additional material as it becomes available. You will notice very quickly as you look at the curriculum that it brings together numerous resources and teaching helps in one place in an effort to assist you as you study and prepare to teach. So let's take a look inside. To help you gain a good foundation of the scripture block you are teaching, the book and lesson introductions offer a brief overview of the context and content of the scripture block for each lesson. Additional quotations and explanations are provided at the end of some lessons to help you understand the specific concepts or scripture passages. The information in this section can help you prepare to answer questions and give insights as you teach. The "Suggestions for Teaching" contains guidance for you as you study and teach. You will notice that they consist of teaching ideas, including questions, activities, quotations, diagrams, and charts. Each suggestion treats the block sequentially and incorporates the fundamentals of gospel teaching and learning in ways that encourage students to explain, share, and testify of the doctrines and principles. Verses are grouped together with summary statements to divide the scripture block into smaller segments where a change in topic or action occurs. The teaching suggestions are designed to help students understand the context and content, identify and understand the principles and doctrines found in the scripture block, feel their truth and importance, and apply them in their lives. Important principles and doctrines are highlighted as they arise naturally in the scriptural text. Teaching helps in shaded boxes explain principles and methods of gospel teaching. In addition, supplemental teaching ideas appear at the end of some lessons. The 25 scripture mastery passages are highlighted in the context of the lessons in which they appear, and an additional teaching idea is provided specifically for each scripture mastery passage at the end of its respective lesson. The appendix section of the manual contains resources to supplement and support lesson preparation and presentation. You'll want to become familiar with the pacing guide and adjust it to your local school schedule so you know what scripture block to teach and when to teach it. This manual also includes lessons for home-study seminary programs. If you are a home-study teacher, you will notice that at the end of every five daily lessons, there is a home-study lesson which is organized in a similar way. The summary of daily home-study lessons will help you familiarize yourself with the context and the doctrines and principles that home-study students study during the week in the student manual. The student manual is primarily for the use of home-study students. It contains guided study activities that students complete four days in a week. Then they meet with a teacher for a review lesson to consolidate their learning. We are confident that as you use the curriculum resources that have been provided, you will be blessed in your preparation and teaching. The Holy Ghost will attend you as you prayerfully consider the principles and doctrines taught in the scriptures and those suggestions in the curriculum that will meet the needs of your students. May the Spirit attend you as you teach with power and touch the hearts of our precious young people.
