My name is Dan Ito, and I come from Japan. I have the disability called spinal muscular atrophy. I am 22 years old, and I am also a full-time student at LDS Business College.

I moved in Utah with my mother and one of my brothers, Tatsu. Tatsu and I were actually hoping to study. We had a strong desire to serve our mission, but we just didn't know how we could do it.

My brother Tatsu first decided to do this mission. Just simply, he always wanted to do what Heavenly Father wanted him to do, regardless of how weak his condition was. All of a sudden, but he had to return to Heavenly Father. I was very devastated by that time, by the fact that he was gone, because we were really good friends. I went to the temple, and I am pretty sure that Tatsu was talking directly to me in the temple.

And I have to serve the mission like my brother was faithfully doing. What I do as a service missionary is to respond to feedback given on LDS.org. I am the only one that can write Japanese. God is constantly reminding me of who I am through this mission. Even though I have the disability and a lot of my body parts are not functioning very well, I know Heavenly Father loves me. And He had sent me here on this earth for a very great purpose. I am extremely grateful to be able to serve the Lord.

Serving with a Great Purpose
