[MUSIC PLAYING] Hi. My name is Phyllis, and I would like to share with you my Deseret Industries story. My husband and I were retired teachers. We were traveling and enjoying our lives. Then we were called as the Price region employment service center missionaries from 2003 to 2005. I used to think that Deseret Industries was just a thrift store. But in our service mission, we quickly learned that it was so much more--which came in handy after my husband had a heart attack and needed to be life-flighted. And then after two financial mistakes, we found ourselves needing to work again. I thought to myself, "Who's going to hire us? We're both over 70." I told my bishop I needed to go back to work, and he suggested Deseret Industries. So I applied, and I was enrolled in their job training program. In addition to helping the store function, I also attended trainings and life skills classes. And after five months of working and training, I heard that a local library was hiring. And I love books. I applied for the job and was selected. Later, after I went to work, Deseret Industries even hired my husband, who was having a hard time finding work in our small town. Even the grocery stores had rejected him. But Deseret Industries hired him, and he had a ball. And having two paychecks helped us meet our medical obligations. And now, after three years of employment, I'm the library director and enjoy my job because I love books and people, and they come together at the library. I am really grateful to Deseret Industries. Their inspired program, training, and support really helped our family, especially in our time of need.
