[MUSIC - "HOLDING"] [PIANO INTRO]

[SINGING] When you hold onto something, you won't hold back. It's hard to tell yourself to move on, not everything lasts. When you hold out for someone you left too fast, It's hard to keep moving forward when your heart's stuck in the past. But you keep on holding, Oh, you keep on holding.

You hold your tongue, too scared to speak out. Your thoughts get overwhelming, and you fill yourself with doubt. When you hold your eyes shut or stare at the ground, You blind yourself in darkness when there's light all around. But you keep on holding, Oh, you keep on holding.

But you keep on holding, You keep on holding.

When you hold your head up, don't want to seem weak, It's hard to lie and say you're just fine, when you choke each time you speak. When you hold back tears that could set you free, It's hard to stay locked in a smile when you can hardly breathe. But you keep on holding, Oh, you keep on holding.

But you keep on holding, Oh, you keep on holding.

And there will come a time when you start fading, When you start breaking, you'll start falling apart.

And you might think that you can't make it. You're so sick of faking, it's breaking your heart.

But just keep holding.

Oh, you gotta keep holding.

Never stop holding.

Oh, you gotta keep, you just gotta keep holding. Oh, you gotta keep holding.

Never stop holding.

You just gotta keep holding, Gotta keep holding.

Welcome to Mormon Channel Studio. I'm your host, Nik Day, and we just heard an original song, "Holding," by Bri Ray. Thanks for being here with us, Bri. My pleasure. So if I were to ask you how someone could learn how to sing like that, what would you tell me? Practice. Lots of singing in the shower. Are there any singing exercises that I could do? I mean [LIP TRILLS] ma! You know what I mean? Awesome. Well, that was great. What inspired you to write that song--you wrote that, right? I did. OK, what was the inspiration behind that? You know, I think a lot of times people hit points in their life where they are just rock bottom. And I wrote this song when I was kind of in one of those spots, and I just didn't feel like there was anything left for me to hold onto. And I just sat down and wrote it, basically. So did writing this song help you feel better? Was it helpful for you? It definitely did. It definitely made me realize that, yeah, sometimes you feel like there's nothing left, and you really feel like there's nowhere else for you to turn. But there's always a reason for you to stick around. Awesome, I love that. So you were on TV, right? I was. You were on a reality singing competition. I was. How was that experience? It was crazy. Lots of busy and running around and hurry and wait. And yeah, it was a crazy experience. What did you learn from it? I learned how to perform under pressure. Nice, like today? Like today. Like today. Just kidding, that was much worse. I can tell, I can tell. You feel calm, right? So you're going to sing another song for us, is that right? I am. Which one is it? "Be Still, My Soul." Awesome, and why did you choose that song? About three years ago, my dad had a severe stroke. And I am a daddy's girl, and so that was super, super hard for me. And I, at that point in my life, I just fell apart. And everything was just a mess for me. And I remember just feeling completely lost and completely broken, and this song was kind of that peace for me. So ... Great. Well, we're excited to hear it. Thank you.

[MUSIC - "BE STILL, MY SOUL"] [PIANO INTRO]

Be still, my soul: The Lord is on thy side; With patience bear thy cross of grief or pain.

Leave to thy God to order and provide; In ev'ry change he faithful will remain.

Be still, my soul: Thy best, thy heav'nly Friend Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end. [PIANO INTERLUDE]

Be still, my soul: Thy [INAUDIBLE] doth undertake To guide the future as he has the past.

Thy base, thy confidence let nothing shake; All now mysterious shall be bright at last.

Be still, my soul: Thy best, thy heav'nly Friend Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end. [PIANO OUTRO]
