In my preparations for the publishing of the book, I realized there were three main topics that I had not adequately covered. One of them was the chapter I called "The Devil's Throat." This is speaking of the power of the adversary to distract and disrupt us. In reality, the adversary does not have enormous power. He can't shape our lives and ruin our ability to choose, but he can disrupt us, and he can discourage us. I used the term "the Devil's Throat" because, having lived in Brazil for four years, Kathy and I visited this amazing Iguazu Falls. And the water that comes is like--it's such a deluge of water. But if you're ever right up on the top, it seems so quiet and peaceful, except that you can hear something falling. But if you weren't attentive, you wouldn't know that you were about to go 70 or 90 feet over the rocks to a certain destruction. So we have to be careful. There is definitely a negative power that is working against us. Listen what President Eyring said about this: "That temptation to delay comes from our enemy, Lucifer. He knows that we can never be truly happy unless we have hope in this life and then realization, in the next, of eternal life. It is the greatest of all the gifts of God. And so Satan attempts with procrastination throughout our days of probation. Any choice to delay repentance gives him the chance to steal happiness from one of the spirit children of our Heavenly Father." Well, I know we'll be on guard as you put the Savior first in your life. And you'll know when the adversary is trying to distract you, and you will move ahead. I bless you that you'll be able to do this.
