Dear children, oh, how we love you! We wish we could be with each of you in person. We can picture you helping in your homes, praying for and following the guidance of the Holy Ghost, doing your best to choose the right and follow Jesus, and helping others learn of Him and feel His love. You are extraordinary! You bless your families, friends, neighbors, and everyone around you. Speaking of your family, would you be OK inviting your parents to join us too? I think they might like to listen in, because today we're talking about Primary. We love Primary! It's been hard not being able to meet together, hasn't it? We miss being with our friends and teachers and talking about Jesus together. Can I share a story with you about Primary? I once went to a small island called Vanuatu. Do you know where that is? Let me show it to you on a map. Guess what. Did you know that Primary is there too? Unlike many Primaries around the world, some children on this small island meet in a very unique place: a building without walls! But that doesn't stop them from having Primary. They pull out a mat, sit on the ground, sing songs, learn the gospel, make friends, and enjoy the Spirit that is always there in Primary. Isn't it wonderful how Primary can be held no matter where or how we meet? Parents, in these unusual times, you have done remarkable things to help your children continue to learn the gospel in your home. You have had new opportunities to study the scriptures, sing, and serve together. Many of you have helped prepare children for important ordinances, such as baptism and confirmation and Aaronic priesthood ordination. You have helped your children look forward to receiving a temple recommend and encouraged them along the covenant path. As we enter 2021, restrictions on gathering in person may remain. Many children are still missing the experiences they once enjoyed in Primary. But you can continue to help them have a Primary experience in your very own home! In a simple way, you could have your own class time and singing time, where children participate through simple lessons and music. Children can still give talks and recite a verse of scripture or an article of faith. Children love to learn new songs, and they're really good at leading music. These Primary experiences you create in your homes will bless your children and help them learn the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Church has created some wonderful resources to help us all to learn and live the gospel of Jesus Christ. For example, the Friend magazine is now available in 48 languages and includes stories, music, and activities. The Come, Follow Me--For Primary manual suggests ideas for activities and music designed for children. The Children's Songbook and hymnbook can help children continue to learn doctrine through music that will strengthen them throughout their lives--bringing the blessings of singing time to your home. Activity ideas in the new Children and Youth program have adaptations that make it easy for you to plan at-home Primary activities with your family. And we are so excited to announce a brand-new event for 2021--a special Primary broadcast for children, called Friend to Friend, that you can enjoy together as a family in your home. In this event, we will sing together, play together, and learn together. Mark your calendars. It will truly be wonderful. Of all the resources the Church offers to support your efforts in the home, none is as impactful and as valuable as the love and care of a Primary leader. Dear Primary leaders and teachers, we thank you for ministering to the children in your wards. You have called the children, visited them from your car, sent them notes, taught them songs over the internet, and so much more. While there may be some things we can't do in Primary right now, prayerfully consider what you can do. Think of each of the children in your Primaries. Do they have the support they need in their homes to learn the gospel of Jesus Christ? How can you continue to maintain a connection and create or support a Primary experience for each of those children you know and love? We know the Lord will guide you in your efforts to hear Him and minister one by one. Dear children ... Dear parents ... Dear leaders ... We love you. Heavenly Father loves you. He cares for all the children in the world. We are so thankful for you, and we support you in your efforts. May the Lord bless you as you move forward in faith. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
