Heavenly Father loves each of His children and wants them to return to Him by receiving the ordinances of the temple. As members gain a vision of this great blessing made possible through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ, they will desire it for themselves and for those they love. Supported by the bishopric, the elders quorum and Relief Society presidencies lead temple and family history efforts in the ward. They help members of the ward council develop a temple and family history plan, which the bishopric will need to approve. The plan should be simple and provide vision to help ward members increase their love of this great work. If a ward temple and family history leader is called, he works under the direction of the elders quorum and Relief Society presidencies to implement the plan created by the ward council. The designated members of the Relief Society and elders quorum presidencies lead the work within their own organization, while also working together to coordinate efforts in the ward. These leaders actively participate in regular coordination meetings with the temple and family history consultants, a priest quorum assistant, and a Young Women class presidency member. Coordination meetings can be brief and can be done in person or through other technological means. Their purpose is to share how each organization is implementing the vision of the ward council, and to seek ways to work together, focusing on how to help individuals, rather than reports or quotas. It's important for leaders to thoughtfully consider the needs, strengths, interests, and circumstances of their members as they seek revelation to help individuals participate in temple and family history work. For example, a plan could address how to involve 10- and 11-year-old children in family history work. It could seek to help ward members enter their own four generations into FamilySearch.org. It could strive to help individuals with personal temple preparation or simply address how to encourage temple attendance. Leaders counsel together in a spirit of love and unity as they seek ways to inspire members with a desire to receive temple ordinances for themselves and to offer them to their ancestors. Each comes spiritually prepared, bringing ideas to discuss, and willing to contribute in the effort to inspire all to participate in the great and joyful work of uniting families for eternity.
