Have you ever gone outside and looked at the beautiful clouds and felt the sun on your face, and looked at all the beautiful colors and trees that exist in this world? Well, all these things were created by our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ for us to enjoy, and they testify that They are real and that They love us.

So today I thought it would be fun to draw a landscape and think about these things and talk about them with you. Let's get going.

[CHEERFUL MUSIC PLAYING]

All right. So let's go ahead and start drawing this landscape.

I thought it would be fun to do a landscape that has a whole bunch of trees in it. So we're going to do different layers of trees. I'm going to do a big tree to show what one looks like, close up, then do some further away on a hillside and then some that are even further away.

So to begin, and I think something really great about doing landscapes is the world is such a beautiful place and the land looks different everywhere you go. Where you live, it might look different than another place that you live.

So I thought it would be fun to do pine trees. But I'm going to start by drawing some rocks, and I'm going to just kind of imagine some areas where I want this to be. So I want there to be some rocks over here,

but I don't want to fill up the whole page because I want to have room to have some other things, like we want to put a pine tree here in the middle. So just on the lower end of your page here,

just draw some rocks and you can draw these however you like.

I'm going to draw one that's quite big here.

And then I can draw some smaller ones.

And you can make these whatever shape you like.

And you could maybe even pile up some other rocks on top of it.

And you could add some textures or details or lines.

However you imagine this to look. So there's my rocks.

Now I’m going to go ahead and I’m going to draw a big pine tree and

to do this, and you don’t have to draw a straight line on this. A lot of times pine trees can kind of curve.

They do kind of want to go up towards the sun,

but I'm just going to draw a big pine tree kind of coming out here and going up and it doesn’t matter if your line is straight at all, because I've never seen a straight tree in my entire life,

but one probably exists, I don't know.

And then I'm going to go back down here, and as I go back down, I want to make my pine tree get thicker as it gets down towards the roots. So I'm going to start at the very top and I'm going to start right where I ended. But as I follow this line, I'm just going to try to get wider and wider and that can be a really fun thing to do,

to see if you can get it to just really get wider as it goes back down.

So now to do the pine branches on here, I'm just going to do a whole bunch of lines. There's a lot of ways you can do pine trees, and there’s a lot of different types of pine trees. On this one, I’m just going to draw a whole bunch of lines going off of it,

just in different bunches. They can even be in different places.

Some of them, you can put them in front of the tree,

but you can just put those wherever you like on there.

And maybe they get even bigger as they get closer to the bottom of the tree.

So you could just make them really long down here at the bottom,

kind of like a Christmas tree.

And there is no wrong way to do a pine tree, so you can have a lot of fun with this.

So there's my pine tree, and if you want to, you can maybe even put a little bit of some bark lines on it if you want. Just have some fun little lines on it. All right. So now we have our front tree. So now the other trees I want to make a hillside full of pine trees. And since these are a further away they don't have to have all the details that this first one does. So I'm going to start right here in the middle of my page. And I'm just going to use my finger to like draw a line down here in a circle. Because we're not going to draw a line here. We're going to make a curve of trees here. Or you could go straight down or you could curve it in if you want.

But I’m going to just do a hillside that comes down here. And sometimes it helps to just draw that line a couple times, or just imaginary, before you start doing it. So I’m going to draw one.

I’m just going to do an upside-down V there.

And then I can follow my curve down and maybe do another V right here.

And then I can keep coming down here.

And this will help me to make it a curve like this,

if I put a few trees in to start. And then you can just fill this in with Vs and start,

put a couple just here in the middle, wherever you like.

And then I like to, as I get closer to these edges, put more and more of these upside down Vs. And maybe they could even get, it’s okay if they get a little bit smaller.

You just do a whole bunch of these.

You can even change the shape of your hill if you want.

And then you can see that you just get a whole bunch in there. Just like that.

So you can see that these look kind of like pine trees here, which is kind of fun because we see this here. And then we just imagine that these are more pine trees over here.

So now we’re going to do another hillside where the pine trees are even further away.

So I'm going to imagine another hillside coming up this way behind this other pine tree. So I want to make sure that I don't draw inside of here, but I'm just going to do the same thing. I'm going to create a curve. But this time let’s try using some lines because they’re further away so we don’t see as much of the trees.

And I'll just go down on my curve and maybe create a couple other lines here.

And this one, you can just go across the top and just make a bunch of lines going all the way up your hillside here.

And you can do this as fast as you want to. Or if you need to slow down, you can pause this video.

And you can even overlap these lines.

But I kind of do the same thing, the ones that are close to the edge of the hillside, I put those ones

a lot more of them there.

And then as I get away, I just do a few different lines

and that makes it look like there's a lot of trees there. Just like that.

All right. So now for our furthest out hillside. So this one I just want to do some mountains. And you probably don't see any trees on it because it's so far away. But they could be covered with trees. And you can draw your mountains whatever shape you like. But I'm going to make it go behind this big pine tree here. So I'm going to make the top peak of one of my mountains. I think I'm going to put it right there. So I'm just going to make a little dot and then go up here. Maybe I want my other peak to be up a little bit higher. That might be fun.

And now I can go down and you don't have to do peaks.

Some mountains are very, very different shapes.

And so we can go through this tree

and maybe if we don't want it to go through the other mountain, maybe we want this one to be in front. We might want to draw that one first.

And we can go down like that and we can connect it right there. So you can see that we have these two beautiful mountains back here. If you want to, you can make it look like there’s snow by making some squiggly lines close to the top of it. That can be fun.

Because maybe there's a bunch of snow when you get all up there, because it’s a lot colder.

And while we’re drawing all this, we can think of all the beautiful landscape that our Heavenly Father has created for us. And we can even have beautiful clouds. The clouds change all the time, and there's all kinds of shapes of clouds.

And one thing I like to do is, when I do my front clouds,

and you don’t have to make these perfectly shaped at all,

I like to make some of the closest ones really big.

And then as I get further away, I do smaller ones below them.

And I make him really close together as they get further back.

So you can see that they’re little dots almost, or just little ovals.

And one of the great things I think about looking at the world around us in this landscape that we're making, is that we can think about how wonderful the Savior is, and I think that this shows that we have a Heavenly Father who loves us very much. And this beautiful world testifies of God and Jesus Christ that They are real and that They created a beautiful world that we could live on.

All right, so let's start coloring this. I’m going to start, I want to grab this brown marker. And I’m going to color in some of this land right here

brown. And one of the things that we can do while we’re coloring this is we can think about this beautiful world that we live on.

And I'm grateful for this world. And this is one of the things that testifies to me, that God and Jesus Christ love us and that They are real.

But while you're coloring this, you could think about other things. What other things testify to us that God and Jesus Christ are real? What other things has He created?

We can look at things like the birds and the butterflies and all their beautiful patterns.

And they created all these things for us, for our enjoyment, to make the world an interesting place to live so we’d have lots of beautiful things to see and things to be grateful for.

I’m going to go ahead and start coloring this tree here, too. And I'm just going to do some brown on the bark, maybe a different color of brown, and just color in this trunk right here.

So I'm going to use some different colors of green to color in these different areas of trees. And I think it's wonderful all the different colors that God has created for us to see and enjoy.

And when I think about colors,

I remember that we did do a drawing once of a macaw from the New Testament.

And I thought it was beautiful, all the different colors that we could come up with and see on a macaw bird.

So that's another beautiful creation that our Heavenly Father has created for us, all the beautiful birds and all their many colors.

So I can get this all colored in with this, this dark, greenish-blue color.

And you can use whatever colors you like.

A lot of times the color of the land changes as the sun goes up and it goes down. You can see lots of different colors.

The trees will actually change what color they are. All right. So I'm going to take another color of green.

And I'm going to do a lighter color of green. A lot of times I feel like if you do something lighter, it makes it feel like it's even further away.

So I got this green color here and I'm going to fill in all of this.

And it’s kind of interesting because in another picture, all these lines might look like it’s a lot of grass.

But sometimes when we see a tree here and another tree here and the shapes of it, we can assume that they’re trees.

All right. Now my last layer on here is these, I want to do these beautiful purple mountains. And I don't know if where you live, if you have mountains.

But in some places, certain times of day the mountains can look very purple, especially if they're far, far away.

But people live all over the world. There's people that live in the deserts.

The deserts can be really beautiful. There's jungles.

And I think that is really fun because it creates a beautiful world and it makes things more interesting.

And that testifies that we have a God and a Savior that love us.

I want us to enjoy this world that we have.

And if you want to, you could just add a little bit of fun by putting a little bit of blue on the bottom of these clouds,

like there’s a little bit of shadow underneath them.

And maybe if you miss some things, you can go back and color them.

All right, that's my finished picture. I can't wait to see some of the stuff you guys have made.

So here’s our finished pictures, and these pictures all show that God and Jesus Christ are real and they created a beautiful world for us that we can all be thankful for. I had so much fun drawing with you guys today. I can’t wait to see you next time! Bye!
