You may read things that say children of people who are incarcerated tend to this or tend to that. You are not a statistic.
You’re a child of God, and He will bring you through this as you keep your hand in His.
So keep your covenants, keep doing the things you know are right, and the Lord will bring you through this. You can look to the Savior for your help, the same as your parent can look to the Savior for help.
But one of the things that can make a big difference is you—
your love of your parent, your respect for your parent,
your encouragement of your parent can make a difference. And how you live your life will have an effect on them.
So try to make them proud of you for the things that you do.
And for heaven's sake, continue to pray for them.
Your prayers will have a profound effect. If you’re able to jot a note and say, “Daddy, I pray for you every day. I pray that you’ll be safe.
I pray that you’ll be able to draw closer to the Savior.”
There are very few parents that that wouldn't melt their heart
and will give them hope because you helped teach them. This is the time to increase your faith in Christ
and to embrace His Church even more.
This is the time to push through these moments of embarrassment and shame.
This situation that you're in will not define you. It will not break you.
It will not destroy you. It will make you stronger and more powerful. And your children will be blessed by how you respond to this.
You will be a foundation of many generations as you come unto Christ and truly embrace him.
