You’re actually going to be putting the top bunk beds on the bottom bunk beds. I felt like really excited to start on this project and like, help everybody around here. I've not seen anything like this before, and I know a lot of our staff, our facilities team are so overwhelmingly excited.
Lots of bolts and brackets. My assignment is to put on all the bolts for all the brackets, do some service. Plenty of hands, eager to serve. —There we go.— And a little patience too. It's in the details, huh? You're doing great. This youth group in Las Vegas, Nevada, is tearing apart old beds and putting together new beds at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission.
The old beds will be repurposed for children at East Valley Family Services. To do something that we might take for granted for someone who is very grateful to have a bed—to sleep in a bed,
it’s pretty great. The beds were purchased through a humanitarian donation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
[singing] “Onward Christian soldiers marching as to war.”
For years I have been trying desperately through different organizations to get these beds purchased. So the fact that today you are here to build those beds and that this is now taken care of is, I mean, such an amazing blessing. One of my favorite scriptures, “Come unto me, all ye who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
And what I told the youth is, if there is any place in Las Vegas where we have people that are laboring and are heavy laden, it's the people that are served at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission.
Youth signed up to volunteer for this project at JustServe.Org. Turnout is amazing. We were so worried about it because it’s end of May.
We've got graduation. All this stuff that's happening in the end of May, it’s crazy. Who would take a chunk, a few chunk of four hours out of their busy schedule and come here and serve? All these youth will leave knowing that their time was very well spent. I think it's really like satisfying with like our ending result with like all the work we did this morning and what it came to. I’m just so beyond grateful that this has come to fruition, and that tonight our guests are going to come back and they're going to get to sleep on a brand new mattress.
