It's amazing how disasters like this can bring people together, and we're seeing little miracles on a daily basis. Hurricane Helene brought widespread devastation to the southeastern United States in late September 2024.

Severe flooding from unexpected amounts of rainfall in Asheville, North Carolina, has also brought unexpected feelings for many who have lost so much. I'm sad because of what happened,

but I'm happy to see the community of love to come to our rescue.

That's more overwhelming to me. I have not met a stranger in the last five days.

Even though I’m standing in absolute chaos,

I feel better about the world right now than I have in a long time. Thank you for everything.

Something less unexpected was the turnout of volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and other local churches to lend a helping hand.

You just can't sit and do nothing when you know that this is what people are going through and what they're experiencing.

It's been really incredible to see people come in who have similar damage to their own homes, who don't have power,

don’t have water, coming in to say, “Okay, how can we help others?” It certainly is not just members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We're embedded in the Bible Belt, and there are so many people who are seeking to serve and to do what Christ would do at this time. And these people, I think,

just showed up with chips to put down to keep the horse safe.

Can you hold just a second? Hi, I’m Carolyn. I’m Jim. Jim. I’m going to give you a hug, Jim. You brought me chips. I brought you chips and water.

She had to swim across the field. There was five feet of water here. In the coming months, this community expects their faith in God

to help them endure. Fortunately, this, too, shall pass. We will be victorious. My God is a great God, and He will overcome. Look at it.

He's coming through. He's coming through. These men and women are here because of the compassion and the love of God is inside of their hearts. And I’m so grateful for that.

I can't thank God enough for what they're doing.
