Living and Serving Like Jesus

In our ministering efforts, we are following the Savior when we keep His commandment to “love one another.”

When the Savior knew His earthly ministry was coming to a close, He did not leave a long list of administrative steps for His followers. He left them with a simple commandment “that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:34–35).

This same commandment is ours to accept and fulfill to the best of our ability. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland encouraged every Church member to rise above “any mechanical, function-without-feeling routine to the heartfelt discipleship articulated by the Savior” in this commandment.

Our leaders have expressed their hope that all young men, young women, and adults of the Church will become deeply committed to the individuals to whom they minister and that they will be motivated by the pure love of Jesus Christ.

“We all need to feel the warm hand of friendship and hear the firm declaration of faith,” Elder Holland taught. “. . . May we labor side by side with the Lord of the vineyard, giving the God and Father of us all a helping hand with His staggering task of answering prayers, providing comfort, drying tears, and strengthening feeble knees. If we will do that, we will be more like the true disciples of Christ we are meant to be.”1
