Above the Brightness of the Sun (DeFord)
Music for Choirs, Submitted Music (1992-1997)
All the world in shadow lay,
Ev’ry search for truth unending,
Long the age bereft of Heaven’lv voice
Long ago denied the pow’r.
Then within a silent grove,
Joseph pled for understanding,
Offering aloud his humble prayer,
Speaking all his heart’s desire
Not though the pow’rs of hell arose
To bid the gates of Heav’n be closed
Could evil’s wrath restrain the hand of God
Who thus appeared to man
Above the brightness of the sun
Purer than the radiant morning
Banishing the night with Heaven’s perfect light,
Clearer than the new day’s dawning,
The Father spake and Christ our Lord
Restored to man his Father’s Kingdom,
The light of truth shines forth
Upon the earth, above the brightness of the sun.
All the world was unaware,
As the word of life was spoken,
As a simple boy of tender years
Heard the long awaited truth.
There within the hallowed grove,
Heaven hath the silence broken
God speaks once again to mortal man.
Hear his voice, oh sons of earth!
Behold the skies with glory riv’n,
Behold the might and pow’r of heav’n,
Behold! The Father and the Son,
The glorious day of truth has dawned.
Not though the pow’rs of hell arise in vain to seal the cloven skies
Shall revelation cease to shine and fit the earth with truth divine.
Above the brightness of the sun, purer than the radiant morning,
Banishing the night with heaven’s perfect light,
Clearer than the new day’s dawning,
The father speaks and Christ our Lord
Shall ever guide his father’s kingdom
The light of truth shines forth
Upon the earth, above the brightness of the sun!
