How Sweet the Joy That Easter Morn

How Sweet the Joy That Easter Morn

Submitted Hymn Texts, Submitted Music (1998-2006)

How deep the shadows of despair,

How infinite the pain

When Jesus Christ was crucified,

Eternal life to gain.

The sacrifice of His pure blood,

Though born with perfect grace,

Required the suff’ring of His soul

To save the human race.

How sad the hearts of faithful friends,

How terrible the gloom

As they anointed Christ their Lord

And laid Him in the tomb.

All nature groaned in deep distress,

The sun and moon grew dim

As those who recognized God’s son

Shed bitter tears for Him.

How sweet the joy that Easter morn,

How glad the hearts of men.

For hope revived in every soul

When Jesus rose again.

He broke the shackles of the grave,

His victory complete.

Now faithful souls could rise from death

And worship at His feet.
