Jesus, Our Savior (Nelson)

Jesus, Our Savior (Nelson)

Music for Choirs, Submitted Music (1992-1997)

Jesus, our Savior, willingly suffered in dark Gethsemane.

Humble He bowed, our sins to bear,

In grief and pain, enduring there.

Trembling He knelt in agony.

“Father, remove this cup from me—

Yet not my will, but thine be done,”

He prayed, most loyal, obedient Son.

Jesus, our Savior, thou didst die

those who repent to sanctify.

Filling thy pledge, made long ago,

Off’ring thyself, that we may grow.

Learning through choices here on earth,

We struggle on to prove our worth.

And all our sins on Thee were laid:

With thy pure life Thou freely paid.

Pondering now thy gracious gift,

at such great cost, our souls to lift,

As we partake this sacrament,

Knowing for us thy life was spent.

We seek thy pardon, dearest Lord,

Gratefully trusting in thy word:

That, tho’ our sins be grievous, sore,

Thou wilt remember them no more.
