Once More a Temple

Once More a Temple

Submitted Hymn Texts, Submitted Music (1998-2006)

Once more a temple, most holy and true,

Rises in splendor before us at last

As once in days of the Prophet’s Nauvoo

One rose from the toil and tears of saints past.

We come with full purpose, desiring to claim

Those higher blessings revealed in this day

For the called and the chosen who bear the Son’s name,

And in sacred places are pledged to obey.

Spirits of martyrs, of prophets and seers,

Look down from heaven with smiles evermore.

For we who are called forth in these latter years

Now do for our kindred what they did before.

O life is eternal through God’s Holy Son

Who watches our labors with angels on high

‘Til all have been gathered and all has been done

To seal up the worthy ere night draweth nigh.

Once more a temple, a house of the Lord,

Stand o’er this river that flows to the sea,

Proclaiming his tidings in joyous accord

With all who bear witness: salvation is free.

For his living waters, more precious than gold,

Flow from the well springs of his endless grace

Bestowing redemption and mercy untold

On all who look upward to this holy place.
