The Sabbath Dawns a Holier Light

The Sabbath Dawns a Holier Light

Submitted Hymn Texts, Submitted Music (2007-2011)

The Sabbath dawns a holier light:

The works of common days now cease;

The way of truth is near and bright;

Now strife and care find sweet release.

As I renew my covenants,

The promises that bind and bless,

Sweet Sabbath day, my sure defense,

Teach me to dwell in righteousness.

This Sabbath day I make a place

For holier thoughts and higher praise,

To mend desire, refine my tastes,

And fit my heart for heaven’s grace.

For if with God I would reside,

Then I must know and love his ways.

Sweet Sabbath day, with me abide

In godliness from day to day.

As Sabbath hours draw t’ward night’

Tomorrow’s toil I soon will face

With higher purpose, greater might,

For all the respite of this day.

Today I viewed with clearer sight

The good and errant in my heart;

Sweet Sabbath day, be my delight

Teach me to choose that goodly part.
