We, the People of the Lord (Petersen)

We, the People of the Lord (Petersen)

Music for Choirs, Submitted Music (1998-2006)

We, the people of the Lord, gather now in one accord

that, with gladness, we may sing praises to the new born King

just as angels, long ago, set the shepherds’ hearts aglor;

“Be ye glad,” they counseled them, “Christ is born in Bethlehem.”

On a still and lonely night, hearkened by a star whose light

Singled out His simple stall

Jesus came to save us all

Not to free our mortal frame from the ills of earthly blame,

But to raise our soul therein far above the grave of sin

Jesus, Lord and Savior dear, we rejoice that you came here.

You have taught us how to live, how to love, how to forgive.

What a mission you fulfilled as for us your blood was spilled.

Bless us now that we may be ever faithful serving  Thee.
