    General Questions

What is the purpose of this app?

The Gospel Media app can be used as a presentation and teaching tool any time you want to use Church media. It works well for Sabbath day lessons or family home evening because it gives you access to the largest selection of publicly available Church media, which can be organized into presentations and presented offline. Below is a chart that explains the content and functionality differences and similarities between this app and other Church apps.

On what devices can I access the app?

The app is available on standard Android and iOS phones and tablets. The app will work on Android 5.0 and up. For Apple users, it requires iOS 9.0 or later.

We realize there are other devices in use, but currently the largest demand has been for Android and iOS. However, we will continue to explore options according to demand.

What other languages is the app available in?

The app is currently available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Depending on demand, we hope to make additional languages available.

How can I access captions on the videos?

Captions are available in English only. You can locate captions from within the video player, in the same area as the video player controls. If the functionality is available, you will see a box labeled “CC” on the right. Tapping this allows you to toggle captions on or off.

Why can't I find the media I'm looking for? Why isn't there more media in the app?

We continue to add media each week, so keep checking in! If you can’t find what you’re looking for or if something looks wrong, you can provide feedback from within the app by going to the Settings menu. Please keep in mind that we are unable to add some videos due to copyright restrictions.

I don't see certain features or functions in my app.

Make sure you have the most current version of the app installed on your device. We continually update the app to ensure that you have the best user experience. You can see what version you have by going to the Settings menu; the version information will be by “Version” (iOS) or under “About” (Android). You can also check to see if updates are available by viewing the app in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android). If an update is available, you will have the option to download and install the app with the latest version.

    iOS Questions

Where can I download the app?

The app is available to download for both iPhones and iPads in the App Store and requires iOS 9.0 or later.

Where can I learn how to use the app?

You can see a basic overview of the app in our user guide, which can also be viewed from within the Settings tab.

    How do I download media?

To download media, first make sure that you have an internet connection. In the app settings, you can also allow media to be downloaded over your device’s cellular network. You can then download media while browsing a collection, or while using the media viewer, by selecting the download icon (with the downward arrow). You can also download your full presentations from within the presentation list. Once the download is complete, the media will appear under "Downloads" in the My Media tab and can be viewed or presented online.

How do I add media to a presentation?

You can add media to your presentations while browsing a collection, viewing another presentation, or using the media viewer. Select the Add to Presentation icon, which has three lines and a plus sign. You can choose to add media to an existing presentation or create a new presentation. You can view your presentations, along with downloads and favorites, from within the My Media tab.

How do I edit a presentation?

To remove videos, select the desired presentation. A ribbon of icons will appear at the top of the presentation, giving you the options to edit and add media, download all media within the presentation, or share the full presentation. Selecting the edit icon (pencil) will place a red minus sign on the left side of each asset and a triple bar icon on the right side of each asset. Tapping the red minus sign will remove the asset from your presentation and pressing and holding the triple bar icon will enable you to rearrange the order of the assets. From the edit screen, you can also rename the presentation.

How do I trim videos and music?

Video or audio can be trimmed only when it’s been added to a presentation. The trimming functionality can be found on the Presentations screen in the My Media tab. After selecting the video or audio, you will see asset details, your notes, and pink sliders that give you the option to trim. Drag the sliders to select the desired starting and ending points. You can view your clip and adjust the sliders using the preview pane.

You can add a media asset to a presentation multiple times, but for each time it occurs, it can be trimmed only once. To add multiple clips from the same video or song, tap and hold the media until a green plus sign appears. Once you see the green plus sign, lift your finger to duplicate the media at the bottom of the presentation. If the media has been downloaded, duplicating it will not create multiple downloads.

How do I play a video on a larger, second screen such as a TV or projector?

You can present your media on a larger, second screen such as a TV or projector by using a VGA or HDMI cord with the necessary adapters for your mobile device. Once connected to a second screen, your app screen will be mirrored. You can show videos, images, and music at full screen from your downloads or presentations. Tap the play icon to enter presenter mode, which will allow you to project your presentation and move through media by swiping left or right on your screen.

You may also connect through AirPlay. If your device and the second screen are connected to the same network, you can tap the cast option at the top of the app screen to present through AirPlay. However, this is not recommended during Church services due to limited bandwidth or unreliable internet connectivity.

How do I delete media I’ve downloaded within the app?

You can manage all your media from the My Media tab and toggle between presentations, downloads, and favorites. For videos that have already been downloaded, the download icon will be replaced with the delete icon (a trash can). Once you tap the delete icon, the video will be removed from your device storage and will no longer be available for offline viewing. Media that you have favorited or downloaded will appear with the appropriate icons anywhere within the app to avoid duplication.

How do I access the app or media in other languages?

In the Settings tab, select Language and then select your desired language. (Currently the app is available only in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.) Switching languages will cause media to appear in the selected language. The language of the app interface text is determined by whatever language your device is set in.

Please remember that not all media will be available in different languages and that assets in the My Media tab will not carry over between languages. If the app does not automatically update the language, you will need to close and restart the app.

How do I add media from my camera roll to my presentation?

This feature isn’t currently in the app, but we are working on developing this feature.

How do I add text slides?

The ability to add text slides was recently added to the app. To add a text slide. Create a presentation and click the plus sign in the upper right corner. Options will appear to add media and and text slides.  Click "Add a Text Slide." You'll then see options to create and format your text slide. When you are done, click the check mark in the upper right corner. You can edit your text slide anytime by clicking on the text slide in your presentation list.

How do I play media from my presentation continuously?

This app is primarily a presentation and teaching tool, and it is designed to play one media asset at a time. We are exploring the functionality of playing media continuously in future versions. You may consider exploring the Church's other apps, such as the Mormon Channel app, for this type of functionality.
