#LightTheWorld in Institute
As December approaches, our hearts and minds turn toward the Savior, His life, and His birth. This year, we have been encouraged to continue to #LightTheWorld with service. Join thousands of people around the world by spreading the Light of Christ through different acts of service each week.
Worldwide Day of Service
First, on December 1, 2018, you and your students are invited to participate in the Worldwide Day of Service. You and your students can serve in many ways (visit JustServe.org for local ideas). If possible, you can serve together as a class, set up a community event, or serve in a way that works best for you and your students.
Light the World
Faith, hope, and charity bring us closer to our Savior. Lesson 27 in the Teachings and Doctrine of the Book of Mormon manual teaches us about charity. “Charity is the pure love of Christ” (Moroni 7:47). Encourage your students to share the pure love of Christ and #LightTheWorld by finding ways to help those in need around the world.
Light Your Community
In lesson 24 of the Foundations of the Restoration manual, we learn about the Saints leaving Nauvoo and their trek west. As you teach this lesson and about the trials the early Saints went through, point out the ways they had to help each other and their community. As we serve those around us and help build our community as the Saints served each other, we can share the love of Christ and #LightYourCommunity.
Light Your Family
There are many ways that we can serve our family and show them that we care about them. One way to show our love is through forgiveness. Lesson 19 of the Eternal Family manual discusses how to build Christ-centered lives and homes. In this lesson, we learn that repentance and forgiveness can heal damaged family relationships. As we forgive our family members, we can have the Light of Christ in our family.
“Wherefore, I say unto you, that ye ought to forgive one another; for he that forgiveth not his brother his trespasses standeth condemned before the Lord; for there remaineth in him the greater sin.
“I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men” (Doctrine and Covenants 64:9–10).
Light Your Faith
In lesson 27 of the Jesus Christ and the Everlasting Gospel manual, we learn that Christ is the light, life, and hope of the world. As you teach this lesson, remind your students of Doctrine and Covenants 88:11: “And the light which shineth, which giveth you light, is through him who enlighteneth your eyes, which is the same light that quickeneth your understandings.” We can gain understanding and light from Christ as we strive to bring the Light of Christ into our lives through study, prayer, and worship. You can #LightYourFaith by studying, praying, and worshipping the Light of the World, Jesus Christ.
Download the Light the World calendar to remind yourself how you can spread the Light of Christ throughout the month of December.
