Saints: A New History of the Church
A new narrative history prepared by the Church History Department tells the inspiring true story of those who dedicated their lives to establishing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints across the globe. Saints: The Story of the Church of Jesus Christ in the Latter Days, Volume 1, The Standard of Truth, 1815–1846 will be released on September 4, 2018, in the Gospel Library app, online at saints.lds.org, and in print. Full published versions of the following languages will be available: Cebuano, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Samoan, Spanish, Tagalog, and Tongan, with additional languages to follow. Chapters from this new series began to appear in the February 2018 issues of the Ensign and Liahona magazines. The first few chapters are currently available in the Gospel Library app.
Saints will be the first multi-volume Church history published in 88 years. Presented in a fast-paced narrative, this work will help readers learn the events of the Restoration and witness the Lord’s loving hand in the lives of His children as they overcame incredible odds to make and keep sacred covenants.
In addition, S&I is publishing new teacher material for the Latter-day Saint History: 1815–1846 (Religion 341) institute course. Saints: Volume 1 will provide the student readings for this course, which covers key events from the early years of the Restoration through the dedication of the Nauvoo Temple in 1846. Lessons from the teacher material will be published in English on LDS.org and in the Gospel Library app beginning in June 2018. The teacher material will be available in 13 additional languages in 2019.
Additional articles, videos, and links for many other aspects of Church history will also be available on history.lds.org. We encourage S&I teachers and administrators everywhere to read and explore these new resources that help us understand our shared past.
