New General Authorities Sustained at Conference

The recent April general conference was highlighted by a reorganization of the Presiding Bishopric and the calling of Presiding Bishop John H. Vandenberg and his first counselor, Bishop Robert L. Simpson, as Assistants to the Council of the Twelve. Elder Vandenberg was also named as managing director of the new Church Department of Physical Facilities, and Elder Simpson was named managing director of Church Social Services.

Sustained as the new Presiding Bishopric were Bishop Victor L. Brown, formerly second counselor with Bishop Vandenberg; Bishop H. Burke Peterson of Phoenix, Arizona, first counselor; and Bishop Vaughn J. Featherstone, Boise, Idaho, second counselor.

Following are interviews with Elder Vandenberg, Elder Simpson, and Bishop Brown about their new assignments, and articles introducing the new counselors in the Presiding Bishopric.
