New Church Hospital

When the Bear River Valley Hospital in Tremonton, Utah, reopened its doors in April as a part of the Church’s Health Service Corporation, it was the successful culmination of a massive community effort by the residents of that community. Founded in 1927, the hospital had been closed in 1972 when it no longer met federal government requirements. Without a local hospital, residents of the area had to travel long distances when hospitalization was required. This spurred them to form their own corporation to lease the facility from its founder and raise the necessary capital for its renovation. Most of the work was accomplished by donated material and labor with more than 4,000 work hours volunteered.
