Area Conferences from Monterrey to Santiago

Two series of conferences, one in Mexico and Central America, the other in western South America, will be held in February and March, 1977, by the First Presidency and other General Authorities. More than 240,000 members of the Church live in the thirteen nations invited.

The schedule for the first series of conferences is:

Monterrey, Mexico, February 17–18, in La Plaza de Toros, for members in northern and northwestern Mexico.

Mexico City, February 19–20, for members in central, south, and southeast Mexico.

Guatemala City, Guatemala, February 21–22, in the Teodoro Palacios Gymnastic, for members in Guatemala and El Salvador.

San Jose, Costa Rica, February 23–24, in El Gimnasio Nacional, for members in Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama.

Elder Howard W. Hunter of the Council of the Twelve, area adviser for Mexico and Central America, has been supervising preparations for these conferences, assisted by Elder J. Thomas Fyans of the Presidency of the First Quorum of the Seventy, who is an area supervisor residing in Mexico City.

The second series of conferences includes:

Lima, Peru, February 24–27, in the Amauta Gran Teatro Auditorio, for members in Peru.

Santiago, Chile, February 28–March 1, in the Estadio de Chile, for Chilean members.

La Paz, Bolivia, March 2–3, in the Coliseo Cerrado, for Bolivian members.

Bogota, Colombia, March 2–6, in Coliseo El Salitre, for members in Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela.

Elder Bruce R. McConkie of the Council of the Twelve and area adviser for western South America has been overseeing these conference preparations, assisted by Elder A. Theodore Tuttle of the Presidency of the First Quorum of the Seventy, who is an area supervisor residing in Quito, Ecuador.

Mexico City hosted its first area conference in August 1972; the remaining seven conferences will be firsts in their areas.

Each conference includes general sessions, a priesthood session, a cultural program, and a mother-daughter session.
