Summer Programs Offered by BYU, Ricks

Thousands of Latter-day Saints in the United States and Canada will participate in dozens of programs offered this summer by Brigham Young University and Ricks College.

Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, concentrates on family-centered programs, many in an outdoor setting. Family Week—any week from mid-June through mid-August—provides activities for the whole family; the Sons of Helaman Campaign is a five-day wilderness experience for fathers and sons during July and August; and a five-week Discovery Program for college-age youth, held through the summer and the fall, seeks to develop family leadership skills.

The BYU campus is the scene for over 25 youth workshops and six adult workshops. Youth programs include athletic, music, debate, college preparation, dance, backpacking, and theater workshops. Of general interest are “Especially for Youth,” one week of classes, devotionals, and activities; “Academy for Girls,” two weeks of learning, fun, fashion shows, crafts, food, and classes; and a workshop for deaf youth.

Adult programs include coaching and refereeing clinics, dance workshops, and the Rocky Mountain Writers Convention.

BYU also hosts approximately 16,000 participants during Education Week, August 22–25. Lecture topics range from religion and family relations to crafts and science.
