As recorded in 2 Kings 12, Jehoash, the king of Jerusalem, instructed the priest Jehoiada to collect money to repair the “breaches” of the temple. And Jehoiada “took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar.” The priests were then instructed to “put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the Lord.”
