General Conference Music

This summary of conference music is provided for the information of Church members and choir directors.

Saturday Morning, 2 October 1982, Welfare Session

Under the direction of Jerold Ottley, with Clay Christiansen as organist, the congregation sang three hymns: “Redeemer of Israel” by Lewis (Hymns, no. 195), “Let Us All Press On” by Stephens (Hymns, no. 98), and “Do What Is Right” by Kaillmark (Hymns, no. 27).

Saturday Morning, 2 October 1982, General Session

The Salt Lake Mormon Tabernacle Choir, directed by Jerold Ottley and Donald Ripplinger, with organist John Longhurst, sang “All Creatures of Our God and King” by Francis of Assisi (Hymns, no. 4), “Lead, Kindly Light” by Dykes, arr. Cundick (Sonos), “Praise to the Lord” by Neader, arr. Longhurst (Sonos), “Come unto Jesus” by Huish (Hymns, no. 22), “Jesus, Mighty King in Zion” by Cannon (Hymns, no. 108), “Faith of Our Fathers” by Hemy and Walton, arr. Longhurst (Sonos), “Arise, Shine, Thy Light Is Come” by Saint-Saens (Ditson), and “The Lord Is My Shepherd” by Koschat (Hymns, no. 104). The congregation sang “High on the Mountain Top” by Beesley (Hymns, no. 62).

Saturday Afternoon, 2 October 1982, General Session

The Mormon Youth Chorus, directed by Robert C. Bowden, with organist Roy M. Darley, sang “Onward Christian Soldiers” by Sullivan, arr. Simeone (Shawnee Press, Inc.), “O My Father” by McGranahan, arr. Gates (Dumac), and “The Lord’s Prayer” by Malotte (G. Schirmer). The congregation sang “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” by Edwards (Hymns, no. 95).

Saturday Evening, 2 October 1982, Priesthood Session

The combined Tabernacle Choir and Mormon Youth Men’s Choir, directed by Jerold Ottley and Robert Bowden, with organist Roy M. Darley, sang “For the Strength of the Hills” by Stephens, arr. Durham (unpublished), “Thou Wilt Keep Him in Perfect Peace” by Williams (Novello), and “I Need Thee Every Hour” by Lowry (Hymns, no. 320). The congregation sang “Come, Come, Ye Saints” by Clayton (Hymns, no. 13).

Sunday Morning, 3 October 1982, General Session

The Tabernacle Choir, directed by Jerold Ottley and Donald Ripplinger, with organist Robert Cundick, sang “Praise the Lord With Heart and Voice” by Cannon (Hymns, no. 149), “To God Be Praise and Glory” (“Sing Praise to Him”) arr. Davis (C. Fisher), “God Is in His Holy Temple” by Asper (Hymns, no. 246), “Praise to the Man” by Phelps (Hymns, no. 147), “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” by Bach, arr. Appel (Ditson), “God of Our Fathers” by Warren, arr. Cundick (Sonos), “On Great Lone Hills” by Sibelius, arr. Matthews (Ditson), and “Father in Heaven, We Do Believe” by Crawford (Hymns, no. 41). The congregation sang “Shall the Youth of Zion Falter?” by Stephens (Hymns, no. 157).

Sunday Afternoon, 3 October 1982, General Session

The Tabernacle Choir, directed by Jerold Ottley and Donald Ripplinger, with organist John Longhurst, sang “In Hymns of Praise” by Beirly (Hymns, no. 9), “Turn Back O Man” by Holst (Galaxy), “For I Am Called by Thy Name” by Gates (Sonos), and “Come, Follow Me” by McBurney, arr. Manookin (Sonos). The congregation sang “We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet” by Norton (Hymns, no. 196).
