Volume 13 Number 12

On the cover: “Behold Your Little Ones,” by David Lindsley, 72″ by 53″, oil on canvas, 1983.

Inside front cover: Translation of the Book of Mormon, by Gary Smith, 18″ by 24″, oil on canvas, 1982. This painting depicts Joseph Smith, Jr., and Oliver Cowdery in the Peter Whitmer home in 1829. Working by light from the window, the Prophet dictates the translation while Oliver records it, the blanket providing Joseph with isolation. “These were days never to be forgotten,” Oliver later wrote, “to sit under the sound of a voice dictated by the inspiration of heaven awakened the utmost gratitude of this bosom! Day after day I continued, uninterrupted, to write from his mouth, as he translated with the Urim and Thummim.” (Messenger and Advocate, vol. 1 (October 1834), pp. 14–16.)

Inside back cover: Life-sized bronze bust of the Prophet Joseph Smith, by Dee Jay Bawden, 1981. Located in the Museum of Church History and Art.
