General Conference Music
This summary of conference music is provided for choir directors and other interested Church members. Hymns, 1985, refers to the new hymnbook recently published by the Church.
Saturday Morning, 5 October 1985, General Session
The Salt Lake Mormon Tabernacle Choir, directed by Jerold Ottley, with organist John Longhurst, sang “All Glory, Laud, and Honor” by Teschner/ Orleans (Hymns, 1985, no. 69), “Let the Holy Spirit Guide” by Shaw/Allen (Hymns, 1985, no. 143); “Called to Serve” by Tyler/Gordon (Hymns, 1985, no. 249), “How Great Thou Art” by Hine (Hymns, 1985, no. 86), “For the Strength of the Hills” by Stephens/Hemans (Hymns, 1985, no. 35), “The Light Divine” by Pettit/Cahoon (Hymns, 1985, no. 305), and “When Faith Endures” by Jones/Randall (Hymns, 1985, no. 128.) The congregation sang “We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet” by Norton/Fowler (Hymns, 1985, no. 19.)
Saturday Afternoon, 5 October 1985, General Session
Combined ward choirs from the Granite, Olympus, and Salt Lake Central Regions, directed by Ormon R. Weight, with organist Clay Christiansen, sang “God Bless Our Prophet Dear” by Dean/Snow (Hymns, 1985, no. 24), “I Believe in Christ” by Longhurst/McConkie (Hymns, 1985, no. 134), and “Be Still, My Soul” by Sibelius/Von Schlegel (Hymns, 1985, no. 124.) The choir and congregation sang “Now Let Us Rejoice” by Phelps (Hymns, 1985, no. 3, with descant by Christiansen, from The Choirbook, p. 54.)
Saturday Evening, 5 October 1985, Priesthood Session
The Combined Tabernacle Choir and Mormon Youth Men’s Choir, directed by Donald H. Ripplinger, with organist Robert Cundick, sang “See the Mighty Priesthood Gathered” by Manookin/Kaberry (Hymns, 1985, no. 325), “Jesus, Once of Humble Birth” by Meyerbeer/Pratt, arr. Ripplinger (Hymns, 1985, no. 196), and “The Priesthood of Our Lord” by Craven (Hymns, 1985, no. 320.) The congregation sang “Praise to the Man” by Phelps (Hymns, 1985, no. 27.)

The Tabernacle Choir, directed by Jerold Ottley, with organist Robert Cundick, sang “Hark, All Ye Nations!” by Root/Monch (Hymns, 1985, no. 264), “O Love That Glorifies the Son” by Wheelwright (Hymns, 1985, no. 295), “Go Forth with Faith” by Gardner/Gardner (Hymns, 1985, no. 263), “Lord, Accept into Thy Kingdom” by Schreiner/Gabbott (Hymns, 1985, no. 236), “Ye Simple Souls Who Stray” by Stephens/Wesley (Hymns, 1985, no. 118), and “Hear Thou Our Hymn, O Lord” by Asper (Hymns, 1985, no. 222.) Bowden, with organist John Longhurst, sang “Love at Home” by McNaughton (Hymns, 1985, no. 318), “Our Savior’s Love” by Gates/Hart, arr. Bowden (Hymns, 1985, no. 113), and “The Lord Is My Shepherd” by Koschat/Montgomery (Hymns, 1985, no. 316.) The congregation sang “Come, Come, Ye Saints” by Clayton (Hymns, 1985, no. 30.)
