Throughout the ages prior to his mortal mission, the Lord instructed prophets to record the revelations and inspired communications that they received from him. Prominent among the prophets is Isaiah, who wrote concerning the Lord’s future birth: “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.” (Isa. 7:14–15.) Inside back cover: Jesus As a Youth in the Carpenter Shop, by Del Parson, 20″ by 30″, oil on canvas, 1985. Jesus spent his youth in Nazareth, where he “increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” (Luke 2:52.) This painting depicts the boy Jesus working in the carpenter shop.
