“What Do We Need at the Store?”
Here’s an idea that helps make shopping easier and much more efficient. Write down the basic items your family usually buys each week. It may take several days’ jotting before you compile a complete list. Arrange your list in alphabetical order, with a separate column for such nonfood items as paper goods and soaps. Type it up and make photocopies if possible.
Now, when it’s time to make the weekly shopping list, you can just scan your list to recall what you need, instead of hunting through the refrigerator and cabinets. I also jot down approximate prices so that I can control my budgeting and avoid impulse buying.—Jeri Mork, Narragansett, Rhode Island
