Remodeled Visitors’ Center Opens

After six months of remodeling and renovation, the Independence (Missouri) Visitors’ Center is now open, featuring a new theater and interactive video screens that teach basic Church doctrine and concepts.

Area religious and government leaders joined to commemorate the event. Elder Graham W. Doxey of the Seventy, second counselor in the area presidency at the time, presided over the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Independence mayor William Carpenter attended the activity.

The center now has a total of four theaters where visitors can become acquainted with Church beliefs, particularly as they relate to the Savior and the plan of salvation.

Displays and a multimedia theater presentation on LDS settlements tell the story of the Latter-day Saints in Missouri. Authentic artifacts from the era are displayed, and many historical items have been recreated.
