A Father’s Influence

Latter-day Saints view parenthood as the highest and most sacred appointment from God to his children. “And [parents] shall also teach their children to pray, and to walk uprightly before the Lord” (D&C 68:28). Among the traits effective parents need to develop are love, compassion, and sacrifice.

Fathers traditionally and scripturally are charged with the care for the physical needs of the family (see D&C 75:28; D&C 83:2, 4) and provide priesthood leadership. They also love and guide their children. In so doing, they can become something much more than what is covered by the label of “provider” or “leader.” They become an integral part of the next generation.
