Highlights from the 190th Semiannual General Conference

In the midst of uncertainty, millions of people found a moment of peace during general conference held on October 3–4, 2020. Church leaders pointed us to Jesus Christ with messages of unity and love, hope and healing, and peace in divine purpose.

President Russell M. Nelson taught us how to obtain the blessings of becoming God’s people.

“As you choose to let God prevail in your lives, you will experience for yourselves that our God is ‘a God of miracles’ [Mormon 9:11].” —President Russell M. Nelson (see page 92)

Many speakers addressed personal growth through following Jesus Christ, trusting Him, and submitting our will to His.

“As we humbly turn to [Jesus Christ], He will increase our capacity to change.” —Becky Craven (see page 58)

Once again, the novel coronavirus affected what we saw and heard at conference. However, with additional experience came a greater perspective as speakers focused not only on hope but also on a greater understanding of God’s plan for our eternal happiness.

“Tests in the school of mortality are a vital element of our eternal progression. … I pray that we … are learning the valuable lessons that only challenging experiences can teach us.” —Elder David A. Bednar (see page 8)

With social unrest affecting many parts of the world, leaders condemned racism and violence. They called for us as Latter-day Saints to become one in righteousness, find unity in diversity, and help build a moral and loving society.

“We live in a moment of particularly strong divisions. … We can be a force to lift and bless society as a whole.” —Elder Quentin L. Cook (see page 18)

As you relive conference through this issue, we hope you will experience again the hope and inspiration that you felt the first time, as well as gain new insights through your study in the coming months.
