“Nobody Told Me,” Friend, July 1974, 39
Nobody Told Me
The wind told the daisies out in the meadow;
The brook spread the news to the grass and the trees.
I saw the bluebells ringing with gladness
And heard the meadowlarks telling each breeze
That summer had come with all of her promise
Of nights warm and balmy, days sun-filled with cheer.
But nobody told me—they didn’t need to,
For today I went barefoot. I know summer is here!
