A Prayer
—From Kirtland Temple dedicatory prayer, March 27, 1836
“… Seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom, seek learning even by study and also by faith; Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing. …
And now, Holy Father, we ask thee to assist us, thy people … that we may be found worthy, in thy sight, to secure a fulfilment of the promises which thou hast made unto us, thy people. …
Have mercy, Lord, upon all nations of the earth … and afflicted ones of the earth; that their hearts may be softened when thy servants shall go out from thy house … to bear testimony of thy name; that their prejudices may give way before the truth, and thy people may obtain favor in the sight of all;
O hear, O hear, O hear us, O Lord! … and let … thy saints shout aloud for joy. Amen, and Amen.”
