“Playing Pirate,” Friend, Feb. 1984, 27

Playing Pirate

When I play I’m a pirate,

I’m awfully brave and bold;

I pretend that my doll’s suitcase

Is a treasure chest of old.

I fill it up with marbles

And soda-bottle caps,

Then make believe it’s buried

And draw some treasure maps.

On my head I wear a kerchief

Pulled down across one eye;

My flag is made of cardboard,

And I hold it way up high.

My ship is just a rocker

With a towel-sail overhead.

When I land, I’ll dig the treasure out

From underneath my bed.
