“Cold Is Nice,” Friend, Jan. 1989, 17

Cold Is Nice

When I wash hands after play,

Mommy always has to say,

“Turn the hot on with the cold.

They make warm, as you’ve been told!”

Cold is nice,

and hot is not.

I love cold,

and Mom loves hot.

Mommy’s rules can make me sweat,

burn my tongue, or get me wet:

“Wear your jacket when it’s breezy.

Bundle up when it gets freezy.

Eat your soup before it cools.

Heat your bath—you know the rules!”

Cold is nice,

and hot is not.

I love cold,

and Mom loves hot.

There are times when we agree

about the temperature’s degree.

In the winter, we feel chummy

with hot chocolate in our tummies.

And when days begin to heat,

cold ice cream’s our favorite treat!
