  1. Caiaphas was the Jewish High Priest, a position his father-in-law, Annas, had formerly held. Annas had become an important member of the Sanhedrin, the governing Jewish council.

  2. Where the Roman procurator Pilate lived

  3. Herod was the governor of the province of Galilee, where Jesus lived most of the time.
